Sealants

A dental sealant is a plastic material (resin) applied to the chewing surfaces of the back teeth – the molars where decay occurs most often. The sealant bonds to the pits and grooves on the biting surfaces of those teeth, and helps protect them from getting cavities by acting as a barrier against decay-causing bacteria.

Sealants are usually applied to children’s permanent teeth as preventative measures during these years where tooth decay is at a higher risk. Dental Sealants are recognized by the American Dental Association as a key means of cavity prevention.

Easy to apply, sealants take only a few minutes to seal each tooth. Sealants hold up well under the force of normal chewing and can last several years.
