One of the most important things we do for our patients is to provide conservative dentistry. During a routine exam and with the aid of x-rays, Dr. Cannilla may utilize a laser cavity scanner called the DIAGNOdent pen to aid in caries detection. The DIAGNOdent pen is a hand-held laser caries detection aid for sub-surface caries lesions that can be extremely difficult to detect using an explorer. It is painless, noninvasively, and reliable.
The office is equipped with the newest digital x-ray format ensuring our patients receive the most comfortable x-ray sensor with round edges and low levels of radiation when compared to standard x-rays and other digital x-ray formats. An instant image is produced on the monitor in front of you with 50- 90% less radiation. Furthermore, we employ digital files and records to transmit information instantaneously to specialists and insurance companies.
Picasso Lite, from AMD LASERS, is a soft-tissue dental laser designed for a range of soft-tissue surgeries, including, gingivectomies, frenectomies, exposing implants/ teeth/ ortho brackets, and for treating canker sores and for the treatment of fever blisters. This innovative tool can also reshape your gums and enhance your smile by making your teeth appear more balanced.
The laser seals skin as it moves along, so this minimally invasive therapy causes less trauma and pain than traditional surgery. A soft tissue laser will also sterilize the area being treated to eliminate infection, bleeding or swelling following the treatment. Overall, the benefits for you are a shorter treatment time and a faster recovery, with many clients experiencing no discomfort during or after the treatment.
Intraoral cameras are an excellent means of allowing the patient to view potential dental conditions in their own mouth. It is much easier to understand what is happening in your mouth if you can see the problem on a computer monitor. This digital image can be utilized to provide information to insurance companies and other doctors if necessary.
For those extremely apprehensive patients, our office provides nitrous oxide (laughing gas) to help you relax comfortably through your visit. Nitrous oxide or "laughing gas" is one of the safest forms of sedation available and can take the anxiety out of most routine dental procedures including cleanings. Non-allergenic and non-irritating, most feel the onset effects within minutes and these effects are completely reversed within about 5 minutes of gas termination. This complete reversal allows you to safely drive home or go to work right after your appointment.
Oraqix is an alternative to the traditional “novocaine” or anesthetic injection typically used prior to deep cleanings or for patients who have sensitive teeth during their cleanings. This gel is syringed around the gumline and will last for about 20 minutes. This allows you to sit comfortably through the procedure with NO pain and by the time you leave the office you will not be numb anymore.
Rotary Endodontics, or root canal, is a method in which Dr. Cannilla utilizes an electric handpiece to perform the procedure. The electric handpiece allows the doctor to clean and shape the canals faster and more efficient than using hand files only and because it is electric, there is no drill noise and almost no vibrations. This makes the whole treatment experience much more pleasant.
Also known as The Wand, STA is a computer controlled dental anesthetic delivery system. For many people who have dental or needle anxiety, STA can mean a much more comfortable trip to the dentist. Because of the technologically advanced computer system, the injection is guaranteed to be slow and steady and therefore comfortable.
